Late November Gunpla Update

Hello Gunplanatics! It's been an action packed weekend of blowing up balloons, wrapping presents and putting up decorations in celebration of my sons 3rd birthday, so not much Gunpla wise has actually happened. Despite that, I did receive some new things from HLJ, and purchased some amazingly awesome things in the recent sales, even though I can't really afford it.

Anyways, here is a short video of me rambling in your face about stuff:

Ryurai kai continues this coming weekend with some detailing, panel lining and decalling. Should have it all wrapped up pretty soon.

End of April Random Update

Have been steadily working through the 1/100 NG Duel Gundam regen - All parts sanded down, did a little seem line removal. Decided to try out a new base coat on the white parts - the Tamiya acrylic "flat base" - did not work.. did not even dry in fact, so had to wash it all off.. mish! Have now done 2 coats of a 1:4 ratio blue/white, and will spray over in white using the blue undercoating as shading. Fingers crossed this turns out as planned. Have not been posting an official WIP for this one as I am currently filming the whole thing - a vid of the whole thing will be up on my youtube channel once completed.

In other news.. myself and Mrs Gundam UK have been busy re-organising our work area. As I have decided to put my music to rest for 2 years, I have packed away all of my music gear to make way for more room for Gunpla, and for Mrs Gundam UK's projects. Pic below of our new workspace!

1/100 MG Full Armour Unicorn

Finally, completed. I say completed, I omitted various dry-rub transfers from the final kit due to the fact they were infinitely irritating to apply. For this kit I used mostly Gun metal and white Tamiya acrylics - a little Alclad II for the thruster parts - mixed a little flat base clear with red to create the "ceramic" looking inner-thrusters in the base jabbers massive boosters. Several hours of decal marking.. a couple of topcoats to make it look more sparkly, some decidedly dodgy panel lining (yep, still need some work on building this skill, the main element being patience - rushing it really will yield crap results) and et viola. Mecha 2012 contest update

With entries now getting up to around 270, the competition is hotting up :) I have got in a little early with my OOB entry of the Jagd Doga, as have a few other entrants and my gosh they are looking good. Fantastic to see so many entries in what is looking to be one of the biggest mecha competitions ever! An update below on some new prises and sponsors, take a look.

Mecha 2012 - Jagd Doga WIP 3

Hello again, me with another WIP for the Jagd Doga - got quite a bit done today, added a couple more decals, did the panel lining (used a wash this time, 70/30 thinner/enamel) and did a little weathering in the form of metal fatigue - just doing it to the paint work this time rather than adding any physical wear and tear/battle damage so as to stay within the OOB category :) About 90% completed now, all the remains is to clean it up a little, give it a few more details, panel line and detail the "bits" and were ready for entry. pics below, inclusive of a preview of the completed model.

Cut from water-slide decal sheet for a Tieren, shame it has no "N-03".. will have to settle for a third of the model number.. :) 

Mecha 2012 - Jagd Doga WIP 2

Completed all the main colouring now, did a little more masking off on the weapons to add a little more detail. Assembly now all completed. Have also given everything a clear gloss coat and started on applying some decals borrowed form the Blueframe, and a couple from a Gundam 00 Tieren decal set. Pics below on how its all going:

Next comes the panel lining, then the weathering, then the final top coat. Should be looking at completion very soon.

Mecha 2012 - Jagd Doga WIP 1

So I have been spending the weekend working very carefully on the MSN-03 Jagd Doga 1/144 HG for the mecha 2012 contest (OOB category). So far, have laid down the base colours - a mixture of metallic and dull reds and silver for the armour - gold for the "bits" and piping, lots of gun metal for the inner frame and weapon and a smidgen of blue for the tippy toes. This is how the Jagd Doga looks for reference:

 

I have made some slight changes to original colouring and "jazzed" it all up a little by adding more gold. I also intend to add some trim colouring along the legs - ill see how this goes. OK, so where I am at so far, let start with the lovely lovely gold, which I am mighty pleased how it turned out:

 

"bits" sprayed gold. Looks good enough to bite. 

 

Shoulder parts. Silver. Silver related-note.. erm.. nope.. nothing. 

 

Yep, I did the thrusters in gold. masked off the innards and sprayed them dull red. Looks nice. 

 Masking off the silver shoulder parts - these now sprayed with dull red too. Should have just taken out the parts and sprayed them really.. but fancied the practise.

Makeshift masking! blue tack really is incredibly versatile.. I sprayed red all over it and I can still use it. Awesome. 

A little assembly of the torso + head as a little teaser. No detailing as yet - that's the hard part that comes next and the most likely point I'll cock something up. Keep your fingers crossed for me. More coming soon!
